This simple story details a family fishing and crabbing trip near Aurukun. The narrator, his brother, uncle and youngest aunt head out for the day. While the males set off in their big brother’s boat Auntie stays on the beach to fish. The crabbing is very successful as is Auntie’s fishing. After they take their catch to Wallaby Island and cook it over the fire Auntie made and eating them with damper and tea. Later they return to the landing and drive home. The tale is enhanced by the simple illustrations done with crayons and food dyes.
Creator, Brent Wolmby is part of a large family living at Aurukun on the western side of Cape York on the Gulf of Carpentaria. He speaks Wik Mungkan and likes fishing and hanging out with his family. The story presents perfectly the family life he so enjoys.
