Pete sets off with his Grandpa Pete for a gold prospecting adventure in the bush and Grandpa takes his super metal detector and his dog Ace. Grandpa cooks damper and curry, then they both unroll their swags and sleep under the stars. The next morning they begin prospecting and Pete learns many practical lessons from his grandpa and hears many stories. The story has humour and heart with many Indigenous truths woven into the conversation. The amusing pencil illustrations extend the text to produce an appealing chapter book and should appeal to reluctant boy readers. It’s the first in a series of chapter books designed to encourage emerging readers.
