This 14-page book is based on the Northern Territory Breath Blow Cough program developed by the Hearing Team in Student Services at Alice Springs. With the support of Kids’ Own Publishing, as well as local children who posed for photos and did the illustrations, the book supports Indigenous children and their communities in the prevention of ear infections or ‘glue ear’, a major health issue for Indigenous People.
Step by step pictures show students (and educators) a series of exercises that assist in the promotion of good ear health. This is followed by a more detailed description, useful for parents and educators, with diagrams of the reasons behind this routine. Finally, there is a story and photo of a young child visiting a doctor about her sore ears and what happens when you visit an audiologist.
As this book is a health promotions book access may be difficult. The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service may provide advice on its availability.
